
Product Designer
Born in 1956 in Yamanashi Prefecture. Graduated from Tama Art University in 1980. Established Naoto Fukasawa Design in 2003.
Representative works include the "infobar " mobile phone for KDDI/au, a wall-mounted CD player for MUJI (Ryohin Keikaku Co., Ltd.), selected for the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, and electric appliances and daily goods under the brand "±0. " The KDDI/au "neon " and the ISSEY MIYAKE/TWELVE were recently released, with new designs coming one after another.
In April 2006, at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile di Milano, new Fukasawa-designed products were introduced by nine different companies, including B&B Italia, Driade, Magis, Danese, Artemide and BOFFI, drawing considerable attention.
Fukusawa has won more than 60 awards, including the Gold Industrial Design Excellence Award (IDEA) of the U.S.A., the Gold iF (International Forum) Product Design Award of Germany, the Gold D&AD Global Award of England, and the Mainichi Design Award, the Good Design Gold Prize and the Fifth Oribe Award, all of Japan.
Books include "Design no Rinkaku " ( "Outline of Design, " TOTO Publishing Co., Ltd.), written by Fukasawa, and "Design no Seitaigaku " ( "The Ecological Approach to Design, " Tokyo Shoseki Co., Ltd.) and "Design no Genkei " ( "Optimum, " Rikuyosha Co., Ltd.) co-written by him. Currently, a professor at Musashino Art University and a guest professor at Tama Art University.
